Pocket guides are companions on the field for birding enthusiasts, offering quick reference and insights, on the go. Compact and laminated, they withstand wear and tear from frequent use. These guides are versatile in their use and are useful during a wide range of events and activities — from bird walks for kids to training sessions for forest guards, and from personal bird-watching to bird counts — as illustrated in the images below.
Over the past year, we’ve expanded our collection of pocket guides, thanks to collaborative efforts with regional partners and the support of nature enthusiasts and organisations.
Our latest addition, the Birds of Sikkim and North Bengal pocket guide complements the Birds of West Bengal Plains pocket guide. With a captivating image of the Fire-tailed Sunbird on its cover, this guide includes Nepali names of birds—a first in our collection.
Another release is the Birds of Bihar pocket guide, a much-anticipated addition to our pocket guides. Supported by the Bihar Forest Department, this guide covers 139 common species in the state and includes Hindi names of all species. These pocket guides are available for purchase on our online store.
In addition, some other new releases that are available for purchase are pocket guides for Birds of Kaziranga, Gujarat, Nagaland, Northern India, and West Bengal Plains. Furthermore, we created some custom guides, specifically for certain locations or organisations – namely, Goa Bird Atlas, Jaipur, Jhilmil Jheel (Uttarakhand), Pench Tiger Reserve, and TVS Motors (Hosur) Pocket Guides.
Currently, we have pocket guides available in English (Peninsular India, Spiti/Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Western Ghats, Nagaland and, Northeastern India) and bilingual guides for different regions in several languages, including Assamese (Birds of Assam Plains), Bengali (Birds of West Bengal), Hindi (Birds of Bihar, Birds of Chhattisgarh, Birds of Madhya Pradesh, Birds of Rajasthan, Birds of Uttarakhand), Gujarati (Birds of Gujarat), Kannada (Birds of Karnataka), Konkani (Birds of Goa), Malayalam (Birds of Kerala), Marathi (Birds of Maharashtra), Nepali (Birds of Sikkim and North Bengal), Odia (Birds of Odisha), Tamil (Birds of Tamil Nadu) and Telugu (Birds of Andhra Pradesh). As you can see in the map above, we’ve nearly covered the entire country, with over 1.8 lakh copies in circulation!
